Shopping in Gold Coast Australia – Where To Go

When you first get to the Gold Coast of Australia, you might be tempted to spend all your time on the beach or in the clubs and nightclubs, but eventually you will want a break from the sun and the partying in order to take in a little shopping. Although this area of the country is known more for its fun atmosphere, it is also a huge center for shopping. Whether you are looking for a high end, luxury goods, or you are looking for hand-made local items, you will find it virtually around the clock on the Gold Coast.

Where Should You Go?

Most vacationers start their shopping right on Surfer’s Paradise Boulevard. It is close to the beach obviously, and is home to some of the most well-known stores. There is a wide variety of stores, from large brand name stores to smaller boutiques and you can easily spend an entire day shopping here. The other advantage of staying in this area is that you will probably be closer to your lodging, you won’t need a car to get around, and there are plenty of pubs and restaurants that you can choose from when you need a break from shopping.

Getting Away from the Beach

Of course, this is a very cosmopolitan area, so you don’t need to stay near the shore in order to make your purchases. If you are eager to get out of the sun, then you might want to visit Centro, which is the largest shopping center of this region. This shopping center has more than 100 different stores, as well as restaurants, and a supermarket where you can pick up some needed supplies for your vacation.

There is also a wide variety of stores on Orchid Avenue, where you will also find a lot of nightlife. There are a lot of high end stores here and if you go to the Forum Arcade, you will find some of the most well-known designer brand stores.

Cavill Avenue also has many stores – again some of the higher end names such as Cartier and Tiffany, but also more affordable stores where you can find beach wear and clothing to wear while you are hitting the clubs and pubs.

Esplanade Markets

Not everyone wants to spend their time in a shopping mall when they are vacation, and if you are looking for items that will make great gifts for the people back home or you are interested in hand made or local items, then the Esplanade Markets are a great place to go. This is an outdoor market that runs in the evenings on both Wednesday and Friday nights, and usually has more than one hundred different stalls that you can spend your time browsing at. This is a really fun way to spend an evening and of course you are never far from a great restaurant, pub, or a club to enjoy the rest of your evening.

How to Get There

Of course shopping does take a little organization, so you should plan ahead before you head out on your shopping trip. Most people who come to the Gold Coast of Australia for vacation will start their shopping right on Surfer’s Paradise Boulevard, because it is within walking distance to their lodging. But, if you are more than a few blocks away, you might want to try some of the other locations.

I’ve also tracked down a couple of sites that list practically all of the major shopping centres on the Gold Coast, complete with customer reviews as well…

Probably the best thing to do is to ask your taxi driver from the airport, the concierge at your hotel, or someone in the local pub to direct you to particular shopping areas. Although it is pretty easy to find luxury goods in the Gold Coast, you might not want to spend all of your time shopping at the same brand name stores that you could frequent back home.

Sometimes it is fun to go shopping off the beaten path, just to see what you might find and locals are generally the best people to ask about that kind of shopping. Whether you spend your time in the malls or browsing through the smaller shops and boutiques closer to the beach, you will find that once you have had enough of the sun and the sand, this is a great way to enjoy your vacation.
